 Minutes of the AGM, 2007: Accepted

 Chairman's Report:

·         The Chairman asked Members to recognise the deaths of H.Gillies, J. Woodyard, P.Wright and Prof.T.K.Shanmugasundaram.

·         In addition to the published report he added that the Furlong Foundation

Scholarship has been established in Oxford for Trainees wishing to work in Malawi or in Zambia;  The BEIT Foundation also offers bursaries to Trainees wishing to work overseas.

·         The Chairman expressed the thanks of WOC (UK) to Stephen and Anita for their work in maintaining the accounts over the years..  A small presentation was made to Anita.

 Treasurer's Report:

·         Displayed and explained. The accounts had been accepted by the Executive Committee at the meeting this morning.

·         The acounts were formally accepted - Proposed by Lis McSweeney,seconded by K.RajaRathnam.

 Membership Report:  

·         The new edition of the Handbook is now available, There are 319 members listed including 7 Honourary Members and 48 Life Members.

  • 13 names have been removed from the list through lack of contact over more than 2 years, despite repeated attempts.  Subscriptions have to be followed up from several others. A further 4 members have been recruited at the meeting.

  • K.RajaRathnam had been proposed for Executive Committee Membership - no opposition was raised.

  • Honorary Membership has been awarded to  Brian Earley & John Jellis.

 

Overseas Reports

 Ethiopia- Some difficulties over the past year in that trainees did not attend sessions. M.Laurence made a visit of inspection. Improvement is expected next year.

Cambodia - work ongoing, no report. Fund raising was successful.

India: - no report.

Malawi: More funding is available for volunteers.

Nepal: - no report. No advised activity.

South Africa: Ken Rankin reported great appreciation for the WOC efforts in support of Orthopaedics in Mpumalanga Province with improving levels of knowledge amongst local young doctors.

Zambia - no report given due to lack of time.- The latest FlySpec report is available on the website. (Hard copies available from H.Robinson)

 

Equipment & Books

·         Catalogues of Equipment  and of Books are now on the website and will be updated as appropriate. A Volunteer living within striking distance of Bedford is needed to continue help with the cataloguing.

·         Executive Committee - BOA  Boardroom, Nuffield House,  January  9th. 2008, at 6.00 p.m.

·         Policy Weekend: 9th./ 10th. May in Manchester. Day 1 to be a "Pre-Overseas" Day, Day 2 - General Meeting

·         Annual General Meeting - Manchester, 16th./17th. September  (tbc)
