General surgeon with good experience in orthopaedics needed at St Francis' Hospital, Katete, Eastern Province of Zambia as soon as possible. The Hospital has recently had its surgeon promoted to Provincial Health Director in another Province. While the surgeon was at the Hospital its facilities and staffing level were confirmed in 2003 as adequate for COSECSA trainees. However without the surgeon, the people in this rural part of Zambia could suffer until a local replacement is found. Any length of volunteer time would be helpful, however at least 3 months would be very rewarding for all concerned. Anyone looking for a longer period would be very welcome and there are possibilities of going on to the Government of Zambia payroll if considering to stay for at least 2 years.
